This is my first time here. Decided to get the gyro platter for $8.95. Comes with rice and salad. Since this was my first check-in on Yelp here I also got free order of boardwalk fries for first time check-ins. Everything was seasoned well and tasted delicious. Noticed on their menu that they have cheese steaks with cheese whiz, which is the only way i like them. This is awesome because most places only give you either provolone or American cheese. Can't wait to come here again to try the cheese steaks. Not a lot of room inside, so you might want to take your order to go. The owner was very friendly and i love their prices.

I've been craving a great steak and cheese and when I read the reviews for Cheesesteak Mikes, I had to give it a try. Located on New Hampshire Ave: Tip: make sure you slow down or you will miss the parking lot. I was surprised that its not a true restaurant, but more of an order and go place (Mom & Pop). The cheesesteak was average. I haven't had a craving to return. Decent quick food.

From the outside, Cheesesteak Mikes looks like a shady establishment. However, once you step foot inside, you are welcomed by one of the hidden mom & pop establishments Silver Spring has to offer. I'll keep it short and simple, like their menu, get the cheesesteak. They are the best in the area. Truly comparable to a Philly cheese steak. The fries are delicious. The prices are fair. If you seek comfort food or are from the Philadelphia area and miss a truly, good cheesesteak, come to Mikes to get your fix.

I'd call the place steak Mikes Indeed go with the Super size cheesesteak and you should be happy with the meat. I got onion and they were well fried and maybe the bread was ok but after the last order I wanted more cheese so this time I asked for 2x cheese wiz and 2x provolone for my wife. Woman on the phone seemed to understand this but when we got home I did not see any difference from the first order; still a tad light on cheese Vs. yea' standard sub. So when I liked the taste, I may search elsewhere for another place next time.

This place was great, its hidden behind the carryout but I'm glad I was invited to this place. At the bar it seems as if the people there know each other, everyone is really friendly. The food was surprisingly good. The bartender July was great, always with a big smile and very attentive.

Mikes' has, well.... a great cheese steak! I like mine with cheese whiz and provolone, which they gladly fulfilled, and then I grab a can of soda from the fridge and have a great lunch/dinner/afternoon snack. The menu has a number of sandwiches, appetizers, and pizzas that I haven't tried yet, and pretty decent fries with a light crisp and a dash of seasoning. I recently went to Philadelphia and tried the 'original' cheesesteak places and, let me tell 'ya, I much prefer Cheesesteak Mikes. But apparently any Philadelphian will tell you where to get a really good cheesesteak other than the touristy places. Meanwhile, I'll go to Mike's. I hope to try their other sandwiches soon, and just a hint; get the Super Cheese Steak for an extra dose of goodness.

Pretty good cheesesteak. They made my order just as I asked and was delightfully surprised. Chesesteak Mike's has gained a new customer.

Only enough seating for four people total with two small tables. I made the mistake of opting to dine in because I didn't feel like spilling pieces of cheesesteak all over me in my car again and I was starving. It was so freakin hot in there that I sweated through my dress shirt as if I had just run a half marathon. Boardwalk fries tasted like frozen fries with Old Bay thrown all over it. The "super" cheesesteak was the same as their regular cheesesteak to me. Maybe it had a pinch of extra meat? Anyways, the difference was negligible but the price difference was not. Stick to the regular cheesesteak. Actually, stick to other places for cheesesteak.

Food is edible, sometimes even good. Reasonably priced. They don't lie when they say they have the coldest canned drinks in the county. Any colder and they would be frozen.

3.5 I was conflicted on the rating Cheesesteak Mikes should get, but I think 3.5 will suffice for now. First thing I tried on the menu was the Cheesesteak. As a matter of fact, it was the Cheesesteak combo that came with Boardwalk Fries and a drink ($9.50). The cheesesteak was decent, but those fries were the highlight of the night. I was more intrigued in finishing those fries more than the cheesesteak itself. The second visit consisted of an order of Chicken Tenders with a side of those Boardwalk Fries again. Once again, the fries were on point. With that being said, the three huge tenders were seasoned abundantly and ended up being tremendous. So what am I trying to tell you throughout this review? Boardwalk Fries - get them. Good luck with parking in front of the restaurant: there are not too many parking spaces in front, and consider the fact that Cheesesteak Mikes shares parking with a couple of stores on the strip.

Sometimes you just gotta take a chance on a hole in the wall. Just passing through and was hungry as I was filling my tank of gas next door. They nicely toast the hoagie roll and hubby enjoyed his cheesesteak. I got a turkey melt which was sorta like a turkey Reuben and they loaded it with lots of thousand island, which I love as a a self proclaimed condiment slut. Two sandwiches for $13, ill take it!

Very good food. I always get the super cheesesteak or a cold cut with their fries the food here never disappoints.

Great food, especially cheesesteaks and pizza, good people, great athmosphere. Small but quality small and if you like kinda dive bars and in neighborhood and wanna keep it simple that's a place for you

For anybody who has never had a real philly cheesesteak , Mike's is absolutely the farthest from having a real philly cheesteak. I am not saying the sandwich is bad. But it taste nothing like a philly steak. It is also a fraction of the size. There was an adorable asian bartender/waitress who is very efficient and sweet. She is the only reason I would go back.

Dont judge a book by its cover...the cheese steak is official, I've been going to this place for years , I recommend carry out, get a cheese steak & Sixer to go you'll be in good shape!

I've tried to order food from there three times. And, all three times the people have been rude. One person even hung up on me for no reason. I will never go there. Such bad customer service.

Pinball is gone, Under new management, No Longer takes entertainment.com coupons. Waitress said only one guy played the pinball machine, so they replaced it with a table for 6, With a Dart Board over the end of the table. Not sure where they put the table when Darts are played. Cheese steak sub, with extra meat and prov, was I little more chewy this time, Did not ask if they changed their source of rib eye.

I would give it a five but I don't want everyone knocking down the doors. The space in the back is small, but the staff is professional and polite. The cheesesteak is to die for and don't get the large cheese burger you'll never finish it, oh my god.new owners and I hear a new pizza oven, best crust in town! Young, the owner, will try to help your experience any way she can. And they have some of the best Latino home cooking on the planet. It's made by Mommie. But stay away I just had to tell somebody.Mikes, should be called Lil Philly! Bring the cheese wiz everything else is there. Good beer, good music and great food. The locals don't want you to tell anybody.

I used to go to this place when it was under management by the original owner. Back in the day (2006-ish) the cheesesteaks were tasty and full of meat. Since then the place has gone through about 2 different owners and a renovation. Unfortunately the food quality has gone down since. Cheesesteaks tasted OK but just weren't the same sandwiches I ate under the original owner. Today I tried a Californian Chicken sandwich. The taste was alright but it wasn't anything special. Also it was expensive for what I got. Definitely a 'once and done' order for me.

Cheesesteaks are good, but the bulgogi is disappointing. I know, I know, but I thought it might be worth a try.

  • Michael D.

The cheesesteak is roughly the same quality as "Jerry's" or a grill in a shopping mall food court. The onions are cooked from raw, and are not slowly caramelized. "Boardwalk" fries were oily and soggy. Carry out in front. Family style pub in back. Owner is a nice guy. He just confirmed he bought it in March 2009. (ie that's when the management change occurred) I will not eat there again.

  • Sara R.

Been living right by this place forever and finally went to it for the first time! The pub in the back is actually decently decorated. I got the chips with chicken sandwich and both things were absolutely delicious! I was completely surprised by the chips because I didn't expect it to turn out so good. My friend got lamb gyro which was also well seasoned and really good! :) Def recommend this place!

Nice local place with a limited, yet delicious menu. The homemade potato chips are NOT to be missed. Carryout is good, but the real gem is the small dining area and bar in the rear.

Nah, homie. This was overrated. I mean... I am a big cheesesteak person when I take a break from my vegeterian lifestyle... and man what thee eff... this sh*t was horrible! Great customer service, nasty ass food. Man I sound harsh but the fact that this food wasn't good and wasn't cheap is no bueno. So, why was it nasty? It was flavorless, dry as hell and my fries tasted like chicken... I am pretty sure it was fried in chicken grease. The fries were overcooked and inedible. Never again... yikes!

The best homemade fries, and very friendly service.

Under new management, wish that was not true because the old owners took the recipes with them. The food is not as good as it use to be. Order once since the owners took over..it was the first and last. Now if I want burger and boardwalk fries , this is not the place to go.

  • Kevin W.

Meh. I'm originally an ill Philly resident. Cheesesteak Mike's is probably the best place in the area, but at the same time, it isn't good. If you don't get extra meat, expect your "cheesesteak" to be fairly lacking in substance. -1 star. They don't have cheese wiz. This is a glaring mistake for anyone who claims to serve cheesesteaks. -1 star. Go for South Street Steaks in Bethesda instead, if you can.

  • Tu-van L.

It's by no means anything like Pat's or Gino's of the Philly cheesesteak popularity, but for $7 for a foot-long 'steak sammie with all the fixings it does the job. 1-2 chairs on a table for sitting if you're lucky, but be prepared to eat these greasy goodness take away. Just don't eat it while driving like I did.

I got a Corvette for under $7 bucks. Har Har. Yes the sub is called the Corvette. And it is sleek and yummy. It's one of the more basic offerings at Cheesesteak Mikes. No frills - steak, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and hot peppers. The steak arrived piping hot, and I actually grabbed one (of the two) tables in the dining area. The steak was good. It was greasy. The quality of the meat was different than other steak joints. And I mean that in a good way. There is apparently a bar in the back - although I don't know if it's open to patrons during the day. Last time I went, 1 of the 2 tables in front was occupied by a worker's friend's family or something. So, maybe you should plan on carry-out for this one.

Our family has been enjoying this little place for years. Although they have some tables for service, we typically order takeouts. The cheesesteak has always been excellent, with onions perfectly cooked, but our favorites here are the chicken kabobs which were added to the menu a number of years ago after a change of ownership. The chicken is always moist and flavorful, rapped in rolled pita bread. Unfortunately, they recently stopped delivering though we are fortunate to be close enough for pick up.

Cheesesteak Mike's looks extremely shady and dingy. The front door is a take out only entrance and they don't have any fountain drinks (that I'm aware of). They have a bar/seating area/bathrooms through the back door of the restaurant. That being said, I still gave them five stars. The food here is fantastic. All you need to get is a cheesesteak (made the way you like it) and some homemade chips. The steak is cooked perfectly and the rolls are hard on the outside and soft in the middle. Delicious! The homemade chips are to die for. Spicy and thin, these suckers have some bite to them. Grab yourself a cheesesteak, some chips and a bottled soda/water and prepare to be floored.

*** Friday - Dinner I grew up 5 minutes from, yet have only eaten here a handful of times. I think the main reason was because I always thought the meat portionwas on the small side. Don't get me wrong, the subs here are good. I just always felt it was a little lacking. Also, I've never read the menu here before; always just called in my cheesesteak orders. Located in a tiny strip mall off of New Hampshire Ave., I scored a rare parking spot right up front. Don't worry, ther's plenty more parking in the back along with I think a restaurant/bar, although I've never been to that portion. The front is very small, with barely any room for the counter, 2 small tables, and a soda fridge. They have names for each of the different cheesesteaks. I noticed and ordered 2 Bentleys, which are double meated portions of their cheesesteaks and got the standard lettuce, tomato, and mayo toppings on them. Regular cheesesteaks are $5.49. Bentleys are $8.49. Few minutes later, Annie (grilled onions) and Stella (raw onions) come out. Yes, I renamed my cheesesteaks. Provolone is standard here. Didn't notice any options for the cheeses although they probably offer other standard cheeses besides Cheez Whiz. Both Annie and Stella were smoking hot. And wet. Dripping wet. And creamy from thick, white ... mayo. Definitely had classic Italian olive colored complexions. Did I already mention that they were hot and dripping wet with love juice goodness? I enjoyed this menage a trios with these ladies and I know they did too. But even before being introduced to these hot lesbians, I had my eye on a gyro. Let's call her Denise. Denise was cute, but she wasn't quite the hot little number Annie and Stella were. She too was fun and juicy, but just lacked the umph that my menage a trios partners had. Her hermaphroditic meat was still good, but just something about it I can't put my finger or tongue on. I'll update if it comes across me. Overall, I like this place, but I still think the double meat portions still lack the double meat title. If in the area, I'd still stop in for, errr, food relations. 3.5 stars

Walked in at 7 on a Thursday night down the side alley and through an unmarked door. There was only one lone patron playing pinball in the corner of the bar. Not a great first impression. Yet the staff was extremely friendly and got me a rolls royce philly cheesesteak (mushrooms included) and a beer in a hurry. The sub was quite delicious but not that plentiful in quantity (I'm spoiled by Philly area cheesesteak). The friendly service and great taste means I will be back for more, perhaps trying one of their food specials (I think I'm going to try the Bentley).

Dude. It is impossible to find a decent Cheesesteak delivery place in downtown Silver Spring. I had very high hopes for this place. Like, really high hopes....but alas, they told me that they do not usually come down here. How do I get on the usually list?

I work like 2 minutes away and pass by at least twice a day. If it weren't for yelp, I would not have stopped because it looks very dodgy. I mean seriously, between two gas stations, in a strip mall-ette with a TV repair shop (do those still exist?) and a pawnbrokers. Bleh. But the sandwiches are really good! If you're hungry (like me), you probably want the double meat cheese steak. And you probably want it with lettuce-onion-tomato-no mustard-mayo and American cheese (no wiz here). They also have strange hours. All I remember is that they're open until 8:30pm on Th and Fri (but close earlier on M-W) and have really short hours on weekends. The guy who takes your money, I suspect his name is Mike because he acts like the owner. He's pretty nice. I'm dinging a star because it seems a bit pricey for the location and the location itself is kind of scary for a single female.

I owe Craig my firstborn for opening my eyes to this place. It really does look extremely sketchy! But the Philly style cheesesteak is to die for. I want to keep this place's ratings at five stars, but it's just so run-down that it goes against my star-giving policy. I saw that it was wrapped first in a sheet of foil and then in paper - this keeps the sandwich from getting too moist, which I appreciated since I had to delay my pleasure for 20 minutes while I drove home. The bun is perfect - a little chewy, soft on the inside and a little firm on the outside. The steak itself is thin-sliced and tasty. The onions were sauteed to perfection, and the cheese...Well, I had to settle for American cheese because (...wait for it...) they don't have Whiz. [crickets chirp] I went with Craig's suggestion and tried the homemade chips, which were beautifully greasy. I thought they were a little over-seasoned, but the chips that didn't get too much seasoning were really delicious. I still highly recommend these chips. Other helpful tips: - There's a sign that says CASH ONLY, so I assume that they take cash only. - I paid around $8 for my cheesesteak and chips. - They sell "ice cold beer." - Mike's is located at the corner of a little strip right next to Exxon on New Hampshire near the 495 exit. - This is not a place to bring the kids - I got harassed for a quarter by a drunk at 4pm. Enjoy!

Such a great little place! Their delivery service is speedy and the food is still great, never soggy from waiting to be delivered. The chicken cheesesteak, the Mercedes, is delicious. Not a typical Chicken cheesesteak, more flavor to the chicken and not that cut up chicken steak that is usually found on a cheesesteak. They are like little chicken chunks that have been grilled. Their chicken kabob on a salad is delicious. There is so much flavor from the chicken and grilled veggies that its not even like eating a salad. The other option is getting the chicken kabob put on a pita kind of along the lines of a gyro minus the yogurt sauce. You can't go wrong with any of these. I have only ever gotten delivery, never actually been there. It's an odd location tucked into a small strip mall in a busy area of New Hampshire Ave. Either way, as long as they're delivering I will keep eating it.

This place is great. I ordered a entertainment coupon book and had seen there was a Cheesesteak place. so I looked it up on yelp and everyone reviewed it good so off I went. I pulled in and yup it's a hole in the wall. but I was expecting that so no biggie. I went in and Gary met me and gladly took my order. I told him that people suggested the chip and he said it wasn't his favorite, but the wedge fries where great. so I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak, chicken Cheesesteak because he suggested that, and the wedge fries. Me and Gary BS'ed and talked for a while as others got there food and where raving how great it was. Gary was a great host as he had me sample on of my fries before I left. man was he right, they had a great seasoning on them, kind of like red robins seasoning for the fries. As for the rest of the food it was out of this world. The chicken was all white meat, and not a cheapo chicken cheese steak, this was high quality. It was nicely seasoned and well worth the drive. For anyone looking for a good Cheesesteak I would totally recommend this place. But if your looking for a nice sit down place you have to go somewhere else. Me on the other hand, you'll be able to find me in the car with the steamed up windows making sweet love to my Cheesesteak. And if this is my girlfriend reading this, be jealous. be very jealous. LMAO P.S. Kevin wrote me asking a question and here was my response: I'm not from Philly so I cant really say but to my standard it was and I'm a picky eater. And there was no whiz in that sub. I have the menu and it says our famous Philly Cheese steak sub features: porter house steak smothered with grilled onions and provolone cheese, served in a hearth baked roll, topped with lettuce, tomatoes and cherry hot peppers!!!. and the Philly cheese steak cost $5.99. Hope this helped Kevin.

They are under new management since March. The cheesesteak was just ok, but for some reason it was flattened like it was pressed, on top of that (pun intended) the roll was barely half full with the meat and other toppings. The outside of the roll and some of the onions were burned, but the meat was juicy. I might give them a second chance, unless I find something better in the area.

Silver Spring has gone through many stages in the past many years and Mike's definitely gives one a glimpse of what it used to be. I started going to Mike's on my BMX in a gaggle of other 12 year-old friends to get a pizza from the hot 20-something counter chick with an attitude only to waste the rest of the day sitting on the front sidewalk or terrorizing the geese at the George Meany Center ( before they started calling the cops on us )....and although everything around it has blended into one long, busy, beige turd Mike's still does its own thing. Its a relic, like a 1981 Trans Am ( you'll understand that comparison once you go there ) and is frequented by many locals still living like that 81' T -top was the new hot car...I can't think of any other place that still does not accept credit cards in Silver Spring, and I cant think of any other place that I hit-up every time I am back home. Their super cheese steak ( double meat ) is insane, even die-hard philly guys give that sub respect, and don't forget to bring cash. P.S. They do have fountain drinks.
